Biography
I graduated from Bishop Carroll High School in Calgary, AB. I had so many amazing opportunities in high school and am forever grateful for all of them. One of my most impactful experiences in high school was serving on the Mayor's Youth Council, where I got to work directly with City Council on bringing youth voices to municipal politics. I also work for an organization called Between Friends, which works with individuals all across the disability spectrum to provide care and joy in their lives. This is an issue close to my heart as my brother has autism, so I am thankful to be able to give back to Between Friends for everything they did for my brother growing up. Finally, I was able to achieve personal accomplishments in high school, while combining many different parts of my personality, being the captain of the Bishop Carroll soccer team while also playing Lumiere in my school's musical. These opportunities, especially getting to act on stage, allowed me to explore the different passions I have and hopefully find ways to bring them into my career.
I was drawn to UCalgary and especially Finance because of the amazing opportunities offered to students. UCalgary is already very research-focused, which excites me for future opportunities to further study my various stock market interests through the honours program. I also really admire the Haskayne School of Business for the depth of technology offered in the finance lab and the ability for students to learn beyond classroom study. CPMT and the DeNovo Student Investment Fund align with my career goals and the level to which they exist far exceeds what most schools offer. I believe I can grow my passions and become the best person through what UCalgary offers.
My current career goal is to work in portfolio management. I am very interested in the stock market and enjoy managing my own portfolio. There are various sectors that interest me, presently, especially in the fixed-income and currency spaces. I am open to learning more about different finance careers that could also appeal to me. I hope to begin pursuing my CFA during my degree and complete it after graduation. I am also looking into pursuing my MBA in the future to continue building my skills. Alternatively, I am also considering a career path where I am able to use my finance specialization to benefit the field of law. No matter where I end up, I want to make sure I am a source of good in the world. Be it through helping families manage their money better, putting the money I earn into important social issues, or protecting justice in law. I want to leave this world a better place than when I came into it.
I'd like to thank my mother for inspiring me with her resilience, my father for opening my eyes to my passion for finance, and all my lifelong friends who have contributed to shaping who I am today. Thank you forever to Richard and Lois Haskayne.
