Diana

Biography

I graduated from École Nanaimo District Secondary School in Nanaimo, British Columbia. In high school, some of my greatest accomplishments are graduating with a 99% average, getting a Double Dogwood in French Immersion, playing on the varsity volleyball team, and winning the Island Championships for volleyball in grade 12. I was also a part of the Student Council and was the Social Media Ambassador in grade 12. Outside of school, I volunteered at my hospital.

Engineering is an incredibly diverse program, and you learn so much from it. I was definitely drawn to the idea of creating more for the world and making the world a better place. I really enjoyed Math and Physics in high school, so I was incredibly drawn to engineering. Furthermore, I was drawn to engineering because my dad is an incredible Marine Engineer and I was able to see his line of work: it was extraordinary. During my undergrad, I look most forward to making long-lasting connections with wonderful people. I hope to research and learn more about making engineering more sustainable and environmentally friendly. I also hope to learn more on making technology more accessible to people who need it.

After graduating, I would like to work in the industry for a bit, and get some hands-on experience to see what engineering is about. However, my dream is to further develop my education by pursuing a PhD. Hopefully, my area of research would be in making Electrical Engineering more sustainable. My career goal is to one day teach at a university level.

I would like to thank the University of Calgary and the Schulich Donor for this wonderful award as it helps me pursue my dreams. I am incredibly grateful for my family who supported and will continue to support me throughout all of my education.
