Biography

Zarin graduated from Foundations for the Future Charter Academy in Calgary, AB. While there, she established her school’s first UNICEF Club, which is affiliated with the humanitarian organization dedicated to assisting underprivileged children across the world. She also participated in the Empower and Educate Club, which aimed to educate the school community by advocating on behalf of marginalized groups. Additionally, she reached level 7 in the Royal Conservatory Music for Piano.

For Zarin, UCalgary’s top research facilities and opportunities will help her build connections with other like-minded people to allow her to make an impact utilizing her interest in STEM. She was drawn to UCalgary’s countless opportunities for hands-on experience that appeals to her skills and learning styles.

Zarin is enrolled in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program, majoring in Biomedical Sciences. She chose this program because she has always been interested in the intersection of scientific inquiry and hands-on research.

Zarin aspires to collaborate with or lead various research initiatives that provide a deeper exploration into unanswered or unexplored topics in the field of science, while also pursuing a career within the healthcare sector.

For Zarin, being a recipient of the Prestige Award has strengthened her efforts to give back to the community by equipping her with self-confidence and the resources to achieve her goals.

Zarin is interested in exploring the intersection between brain structure, function, and age, especially in response to certain interventions and treatments.
