Silas M.

Silas graduated from Crowsnest Consolidated High School in Coleman, AB. While there, he was valedictorian for his graduating class, was the most valuable player in volleyball, basketball, and soccer, and graduated with an over 95% average in his classes.

Silas chose UCalgary mostly because of the Schulich Leader Scholarship, but he also wanted to be close to the mountains for recreation.

Silas is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science – Chemistry. He chose this program because of its range of applicability and his inherent interest in science.

Silas wants to go into research. He is unsure of the specific field but is interested in energy research.

For Silas, the award allows him to focus more on his classes and building connections within the UCalgary community. Instead of having to work during the school year, he can focus his time on academics and spending time with people he has made connections with.

Silas has a particular interest in energy research but is also interested in anything that could help make the world a better place, such as food and water security. He is excited to build the foundational skills in his field that would allow him to make discoveries and advancements on his own.
