The awards are named in memory of Dr. Joy Calkin, a pediatric nurse and health care advocate, funded by the Muttart Family
Foundation and created to honour and build on the Hon. Landon Pearson’s children’s rights advocacy work and life-long
dedication to developing a culture of respect for children’s rights in Canada.
Award description
- Students enrolled full-time at a Canadian university and taking courses in child and youth studies, children’s rights/human rights, sociology or anthropology of childhood, education, social justice, or related programs are eligible to apply for the award. Undergraduate students in your first semester of 4th year of studies and graduate students who have not completed their graduate degree are eligible to apply.
- First Nations, Métis or Inuit students enrolled full-time in a program focusing on children and youth, children’s rights, or allied field at a Canadian university are eligible to apply for the award
