Biography

Sigmund Holtz attended Rundle College Senior High School. Sigmund’s most prominent achievements are:

1. The Duke of Edinburgh International Award (Gold)
2. Top 100 Canadian Professionals Magazine 2020 (For work with Nia Technologies INC. and Tuscan Capital Management LTD.)
3. 2nd Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate

Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “Study without desire spoils the memory, and it retains nothing that it takes in.” Sigmund wanted to study with a desire to change his life and to leave a lasting legacy at the University of Calgary. When he first learned that the Haskayne School of Business was striving to be one of the top five business schools in Canada, Sigmund knew that he wanted to play a role in that accomplishment. In order to achieve this, the university has made meaningful engagement with the community and created unmatched learning opportunities for its students. Sigmund has aspirations to study through a variety of different methods, to apply his knowledge to real-world issues, and to make a lasting impact on his community and those around him.

Business (specialization in finance) and economics with a minor in mathematics. Sigmund chose these programs to apply his passion for mathematics to business and economics in his pursuit of working in investment banking, private equity, or venture capital. Currently, Sigmund's desire to pursue a career in investment banking on the sell side of Bay or Wall Street prior to moving into either private equity or venture capital. After working in capital markets, he wants to develop his own non-for-profit organization.

The Prestige Award has enabled him to pursue a dual degree and focus on his academics without requiring a co-op program. This will enable Sigmund to prioritize an investment banking internship, his pursuit of a CFA (Level 1), and to expand my business. It is an honour to have been selected for this award and to pursue his degrees at the University of Calgary.
