Seymour Schulich Academic Excellence Entrance Scholarship

Awards and Scholarships

Biography

Jayden is enrolled in the engineering program. She chose engineering because she enjoys solving puzzles and applying her knowledge to practical solutions. Engineering allows her to combine her favorite subjects, math and science, with problem solving. She is planning to pursue electrical engineering, as she is especially interested in autonomous and remote operated vehicles, programming, and hardware. She is keeping her post-graduation options open, but she would like to complete a Masters in Geomatics.

Jayden had graduated from Heritage Christian Online School, Kelowna, B.C. During her high school years, her top three achievements were achieving the rank of 1st Dan (black belt) in Taekwondo, completing a co-op placement at a local aerospace engineering company, and teaching kids' martial arts at his dojang and led youth programs at her church.
She chose the University of Calgary as she was especially drawn to the abundance of student clubs, maker spaces, and hands-on learning opportunities. As well, the year-long internship program will allow her to practice her skills in the workplace before graduating. She also has a family connection to the Schulich School of Engineering, as both of her parents are alumni of the school.

The scholarship has alleviated her financial concerns and will allow her to focus on academics and hands-on learning opportunities instead of working to fund his education. It will also allow her many networking and mentorship opportunities. She would like to thank Mr. Schulich and the University of Calgary for this generous opportunity. She is incredibly grateful for receiving this award.
