Biography
Emine is enrolled in the Engineering Program. Engineering caught her interest because of the learning environment that supports using several skills such as team work, creativity, and problem solving. She would like to become someone who creates and makes things possible. Engineering will be the start of the journey of life-long learning for Emine.
Emine graduated from Nelson Mandela High School in Calgary, AB. During her high school years, her top three achievements were: founding and leading the school’s first Arts for a Cause Club where she collaborated with local charity and made an installation at her school, being a member of the Youth Arts Action (Team North) group where they created numerous projects combining mental health and art to better the community, and acting as part of the school’s Youth Champions where she focused on the well being of students and designed activities such as a stress room for during exams.
After Emine showed interest at the University of Calgary early on, the university kept in contact with her – sending reminders, tips and even receiving calls from current undergraduate students to give her opportunities to ask questions. She felt the University was doing everything in their power to ensure a smooth transition from high school to university, which was one of her main concerns. Ultimately, this lead her to choose the University of Calgary.
Emine is aware of the responsibility that receiving a prestige award brings. She plans on working diligently at UCalgary to be someone fit to receive the award given, which means taking on leadership roles and continuing to contribute to the greater community.
