Biography

Once Arzina graduates her dream is to become a clinician-scientist with the hope of meaningfully contributing to global efforts to prevent disease, reduce poverty and untimely death by reducing barriers to care.

Before coming to University of Calgary, Arzina graduated from Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School. Her top three achievements in high school were: being a part of the Alberta Innovates Heritage Youth Researcher Summer Program (HYRS), the project was entitled Effect of Disrupted Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) Bacteria on the Expression of Host Defense Cathelicidin and Toll-Like Receptor-2 in Mammary Epithelial Cells; she was the founder and Organizer of the Environmental Sustainability Club; and lastly, she was a Grade 12 Student Leader (Prefect), Organizing and executing events such as Anti-Bullying Week, Spirit Week, Pride Day, Movember and the Terry Fox Run.

Arzina chose the University of Calgary because in addition to being one of Canada's top universities, the focus on scientific research and innovation in the Bachelor of Health Sciences Honours Program.

Arzina explains the impact of receipt of the Chancellor’s Club Scholarship: “I am extremely humbled to have received the Chancellor's Club Scholarship. This scholarship will constantly motivate me to strive to meaningfully contribute to the UCalgary community in addition to inspiring me to excel in my academic endeavours.”
