Biography

Yahia is enrolled in the Engineering Program. He chose this program because it allows him to utilize his problem-solving talents and capabilities in finding solutions to the key issues affecting the world. His future ambitions in his career are to design a smart city of the future, optimized for sustainable living in terms of energy, water, natural resources, and transportation.

Yahia graduated from Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School in Calgary, AB. During his high school years, his top three achievements were participating in the Mayor’s Environmental Expo, creating a 30 minute documentary highlighting key issues regarding Alberta’s water supply, and presenting at the Navig8 Water and Environmental Leadership Summit.

His choice to study at the University of Calgary was motivated by the fact that it is a young, innovative university with lots of research opportunities, and it is located in a prime location with lots of nature around. Having a prestige award will allow Yahia to dedicate his focus and attention toward his studies, potential research opportunities and participating in clubs, without having to juggle any additional financial stressors.

Yahia would like to thank the University of Calgary and the sponsors of the prestige awards for contributing to scholarships like these, and wishes the University community the best heading into his program.
