Liam A.
Seymour Schulich Community Service/Entrepreneur Award
Biography
Liam is enrolled in the Schulich School of Engineering. He chose this field because he enjoys math and sciences, and has a passion for understanding the designs and inner workings of machines in hopes to design and build his own machines in the future. He plans to become a Mechanical Engineer, with the hope to design and build ecologically sustainable technology. Liam hopes to work with technology in a variety of settings, ranging from the automotive industry to factory machinery.
Liam graduated from Vernon Secondary School in Vernon, BC. During high school, his top three achievements were: being awarded North Okanagan Top Male Athlete of 2019 (awarded to an outstanding athlete who also maintains excellent grades and community involvement), the BC High School Football Top Lineman of the AA Provincial Championship Game (for top lineman both defensively and offensively), and receiving his French DELF B1 certification.
Calgary is a beautiful city and has a reputation as the “energy hub” of Canada. The city, as well as the reputation of the University of Calgary’s engineering program, made the choice for Liam to attend schooling here fairly easy. His decision was reinforced while visiting the university in the spring and seeing the facilities and programs offered. Another deciding factor was the variety of teams and clubs offered by the engineering department, which would not only be fun and build community, but also supplement his studies with hands-on experience.
Before receiving this prestige award, Liam was planning on working part-time and taking out loans to make it through his education. Now that finances are no longer an issue, he will focus completely on his studies and remain debt-free!
