Seymour Schulich Academic Excellence Entrance Scholarship for Calgary Area Residents

Biography
I graduated from Westmount Charter School in Calgary. In high school, I was a first clarinet player in the symphonic band and jazz band, which won multiple awards at national festivals. I additionally contributed to the school newspaper, wrote for the school literary anthology, and engaged in volunteering. My personal and academic experiences in high school allowed me to develop passion for scientific problem-solving and creative expression, in addition to interests in history and the human condition.
I was originally interested in engineering to explore how societal problems may be technologically solved and to learn how negative exploitation of technology may be avoided, especially within the field of sustainability. I applied for the Schulich program with the hope to be able to learn about the current challenges surrounding the development and implementation of climate solutions through the Sustainable Systems Engineering program. My current dream in pursuing engineering is to contribute to the creation of a balance between human technology and a sustainable ecosphere. Throughout my degree, I hope to build knowledge about scientific technologies including climate technologies and artificial intelligence. I also would like to explore scientific issues and innovations through social and economic perspectives. Currently, I am aiming to participate in research surrounding the implementation of negative carbon emission technologies.
My future aspiration is to work as an engineer in the sustainable development field, and to possibly continue studies in graduate school in a similar area of engineering research.
I am deeply grateful to my family members, teachers and mentors, and others who encouraged me throughout my academic pursuits for helping me earn this scholarship.
