Seymour Schulich Community Service/Entrepreneurial Entrance Award For Calgary Area Residents

Biography
I graduated from Western Canada High School in Calgary, AB. While there, I served as a Senior Fundraising Executive for the Band Leadership Executive, raising over $60,000 over 2 years by planning and executing over 30 initiatives. As a Students’ Council member, I also planned and organized numerous school spirit and charity events. As a teaching assistant for El Sistema Calgary, a worldwide non-profit organization that aims to make music education more accessible, I got to teach violin to underprivileged kids who would otherwise be unable to afford it. Likewise, I have also volunteered with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets to teach youth the sport of sailing for free.
My passion for sailing since the age of 12 is what led me to become interested in Mechanical Engineering since it can allow me to explore my natural curiosity for aerodynamics while still making a significant impact on the world. I hope to learn more about designing for practical solutions through my involvement with UCalgary Racing and Project90, where I am currently applying my knowledge from the classroom into tangible results. I'm also looking forward to learning more about sustainable systems and how mechanical engineers can find solutions to overcome our climate challenges, and I am specifically interested in how fluids can play a role in this.
I hope to work with companies that utilize aerodynamics to build a more sustainable future; specifically, I hope to work for electric vehicle companies to design more efficient car bodies to minimize drag and energy usage, or I hope to work in the aerospace sector to aid in the advancement of reusable rockets. After my undergraduate degree, I am planning on pursuing a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering to continue my experience in something I genuinely love.
I would like to thank my parents for their selfless dedication and unwavering support, my siblings for always being by my side, and my friends who made me live in the moment. My biggest advice: find what you love, and do it.
