Conrad L.
Seymour Schulich Academic Excellence Entrance Scholarship for Calgary Area Residents
Biography
Conrad graduated from St. Francis High School in Calgary, AB. While there, he won the Bishop McNally Trophy for Second Highest Overall Average in Grade 12. He was also the St. Francis Schulich Leader Nominee for St. Francis High School. He also won the 2023 Conservatory Canada Level 9 Medal of Excellence in Contemporary Piano.
Conrad chose to study at UCalgary due to its unique Engineering program, especially with the Schulich Studio learning for first years. He appreciates the wide variety of majors to choose from after the common first year, and the option to minor in Energy and Environment. He also loves the city of Calgary, where he grew up, and he was looking for an opportunity to stay local for his post-secondary studies.
Conrad is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science – Engineering program and plans to major in Mechanical Engineering. He chose this program due to his longstanding goal to understand and apply the mathematics and physics behind building infrastructure and cutting-edge technology.
Conrad hopes to work as an engineer, potentially in the incredible oil and gas industry here in Alberta, or in an alternative energy such as solar or nuclear field where he can help be a part of diversifying the grid in North America.
For Conrad, the Prestige Award will allow him to dedicate himself completely to his studies without the underlying concern of finding the means to pay for his tuition.
Conrad is very interested in researching emerging energy technologies such as solar power, and learning about ways that we can be more efficient with both energy use and production, not just in Alberta but around the world.
Conrad would like to thank the donor, Seymour Schulich, for the award and the opportunity it has given him to get the most out of his education at UCalgary.
