Sand dunes roll out to the horizon with blue sky above. A pair of footprints leads from the bottom right corner to the middle, where a distant silhouette of a person is walking.

Haskayne Exchange Programs

Students in UCalgary's Haskayne School of Business have the option to enhance their BComm degree with an international exchange program. As an exchange student, you will study at a host university in another country for 1 or more semesters, take courses at that university, and have the credits transferred back to your degree.

Haskayne students have two options for exchange:

  1. Haskayne Exchanges. These exchanges are coordinated by the Haskayne School of Business, and allow you to take courses towards your concentration or commerce options, as well as non-commerce options. Students must complete min. 20 UCalgary courses by the time of the exchange to be eligible.
  2. UCI Exchanges - i.e. non-Haskayne exchanges. These exchanges are coordinated by the UCalgary International Global Learning Office, and you can only take non-commerce options. Students must complete min. 10 UCalgary courses by the time of the exchange to be eligible.

This page provides a summary of Haskayne Exchanges. (If you are interested in exploring UCI Exchanges instead, please use the Program Finder to browse for exchanges that do not say "Haskayne only" in the title.)

Please note: Haskayne Exchanges may be competitive with limited spots available. If you apply & are selected for a Haskayne Exchange, most of your logistics will be handled by an exchange advisor in the Haskayne School of Business (coordinating your exchange, course approvals/transfer credit, etc.). You will also complete mandatory pre-departure training, facilitated by the UCI Global Learning Office alongside UCI Exchange students.

Your next steps

Identify 3 programs of interest

Haskayne exchange placements are sometimes competitive, so we recommend identifying your top 3 programs. You will be able to specify your order of preference in the application.

Note: you can apply for fewer than 3 programs if you wish, however, if placements are competitive, having flexibility and strong back-ups is beneficial.

Review the Haskayne website

The Haskayne School of Business has a website with comprehensive information for students planning to go on exchange, including course requirements, eligibility details, and more.

Prepare your application

Your preparations should include: reviewing the program pages (linked in the drop-downs above), checking course offerings, and filling out the online application.

You will ultimately fill out 1 online application form for each program you are applying to. Start by "saving" your applications, until you have your top 3 "saved". Once you're ready, you can "submit" all 3 applications and rank them in your order of priority.

International travel presents challenges that may not be found when attending classes on campus. There may be a lack of resources, emergency services, hospitals, accessibility issues and/or demands on the physical and the mental self, all of which can challenge individuals when away from their usual support systems and structures. Adequate preparation is essential.

For this reason, it is imperative that you evaluate all aspects of your own physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual condition against the rigors of the particular global learning program you are selecting. If you are unsure of whether or not this program is a good fit for you and/or if you have any circumstances that could impede your enjoyment of the program, please contact us. Our Global Learning Advisors will be happy to assist in finding the best options for you and arrange any supports or accommodations necessary to ensure your success.

If you have or are seeking a certificate from Student Accessibility Services, you should provide this early to your Global Learning Advisor to ensure that the option that you are seeking can support your needs.

Please note: All participants must adhere to COVID-19 and other vaccination-related requirements for the destinations visited on this program. Failure to do so may have consequences such as being denied access to accommodation/housing, program activities, or to the host country itself.
