Dr. Michele Jacobsen

Dr. Michele Jacobsen (PI) is a Professor in Learning Sciences, Werklund School of Education and a University of Calgary Teaching Scholar, who designs and evaluates innovations in learning with technology. She leads the design of participatory pedagogies for knowledge building and intellectual engagement in open, online and blended learning spaces on campus and in schools.

Michele uses design-based, case study and action research approaches to investigate online faculty development for quality graduate supervision, science communication training, peer mentoring in graduate school, research-based learning in online graduate programs, internet use by Canadian families, and leading complex adaptive learning systems in kindergarten to senior high schools.

Michele served as Vice Dean and Associate Dean of Graduate Programs in Education for more than six years. Michele has supervised 32 doctoral and masters students to the completion of their theses. She has received University and Faculty awards for excellence in graduate supervision, leadership, teaching and academic publishing.
