Jamie Petersson

B.Sc. Neuroscience & Psychology, University of Lethbridge
M.Sc. Neuroscience, University of Lethbridge

Currently working towards: Ph.D. Medical Sciences, Oncology, University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine

Current Research Project: The Mindful-Gut Study

Supervisor: Dr. Linda E. Carlson

As a PhD student in medical sciences specializing in psychosocial oncology at the University of Calgary, Jamie seeks to understand how spending time in natural environments can impact cancer care. This passion sprouted from watching nature's positive impact on her dad during his cancer treatments. Having lost her father to cancer, Jamie hopes to bring the same delight and tranquillity that she observed in her dad to others with cancer.

Jamie's research interests also include the complex interaction between the mind and the body in cancer care. Her current research project, the Mindful-Gut Study, looks at how a mindfulness program tailored to individuals with cancer can reduce chronic psychosocial and gastrointestinal symptoms and change the gut microbiota.

Outside of academia, Jamie loves spending time with her best friend and long-term partner, Hayes. She particularly enjoys playing soccer and other sports with Hayes. Being outdoors and hanging out with friends, family, and family pets brings her joy.
