Biography

In Elementary school, Emma was led to believe that she was not at all good at math. It wasn’t until she got to Junior High that Emma realized she was mistaken, and found a love for the subject. Her passion for math and learning has continued to develop, across many disciplines. Emma’s curiosity leads her to make connections between her studies in STEM and her love of arts disciplines.

She grew up dancing and is now a teacher at multiple studios in Calgary. While her favourite genre is Ballet, her hunger for learning led her to try styles that terrified her like Jazz and Hip Hop. Emma now works to find an interconnection between her studies in math and her profession in dance with the belief that if you look close enough, everything has some sort of formula. The past few years of teaching has opened her eyes to the vast differences of the development of children, which has inspired her to experiment with different ways of teaching.

Though Emma originally planned to study to become a math teacher, she now wishes to research how we teach math to children, specifically those that are neurodivergent, in the hopes that no child will ever feel how she did in elementary school. Emma believes that adapting to different learning styles is the key to amending mathematics' bad reputation around school aged children.
