The Hunter Student Commons is designed to inspire students to focus on green solutions.
You will notice that Hunter Student Commons is primarily made of glass and concrete. While this adds to the architectural aesthetic, these materials also perform special functions. The glass allows the sun to shine through and heat up the concrete, creating a natural heating system. The vessels on the main floor of the building rise through all four floors, allowing the warm air from the concrete to circulate throughout the whole building. This natural air flows while circulating more fresh air, displacing the old air. It’s just another example of green building practices in action.
Everything about the design is to limit carbon emissions.
