Technology and smart design combine to support a healthier environment.
Hunter Student Commons embraces renewable energy, taking advantage of Calgary’s abundance of sunshine. The roof features a steel structure for solar panels to be added. There are also solar panels on some vertical surfaces, using the corner of the building that receives the most natural light. Sustainability was a priority throughout the building’s design. Due to the lack of pipes, the building generates virtually no noise, and the revolving doors allow only small amounts of cold air into the building.
This building is a living lab, helping teach our students about renewable energy and spark conversations about green building practices.
