Biography

Camila joined the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, at the University of Calgary as a PhD student in May 2016. Camila graduated from Veterinary Medicine in 2010 from the State University of Ceara, Brazil and obtained a Master’s Degree in Medical Sciences in 2012 from the Federal University of Ceara, Brazil. From 2012-2016, Camila has worked as a Food Safety Inspector at the Department of Health Surveillance, Fortaleza City Hall, Fortaleza city, Ceara state, Brazil. 

Working under the supervision of Dr. John Gilleard, Camila’s project is entitled: “Deep amplicon sequencing assay to investigate gastrointestinal nematode species distribution and anthelmintic resistance in Western Canadian sheep flocks.” She will be applying deep amplicon sequencing and molecular epidemiology tools to study how the anthelmintic resistance arise and spread in farms in Alberta.  Camila presented this theme at the AAVP Annual meeting.
