Safer Substance Use: Harm Reduction

Learn tools to reduce stigma toward people who use substances.

In these trainings, you'll learn:

- about guiding principles of harm reduction
- strategies to reduce harms related to substance and alcohol use
- how to recognize and respond to intoxication, over-consumption, and poisoning/overdose
- effective strategies for reducing stigma related to substance use and addiction

Naloxone training and kits will also be provided following the workshops. If you are unable to attend the Safer Substance Use: Harm Reduction 101 workshop, but would like to receive the naloxone training and kit, contact Student Wellness Services at 403-220-9355.

Fall 2024 Training Dates: 

Harm Reduction 101 IN-PERSON 2-hours: Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024 12:30-2:30 p.m.

 

  • Harm Reduction 101 – 1-hour workshop discussing harm reduction principles and safer substance use with alcohol and cannabis.
  • Harm Reduction 201 – 2-hour training exploring harm reduction principles, safer substance use for multiple categories of substance, and stigma-reduction. (includes Naloxone training)
  • Exploring Harm Reduction and Stigma – Explores principles of harm reduction and how to utilize these as guiding principles for reducing stigma related to substance use.
  • Reducing Harms: Understanding Intoxication, Over-Consumption, and Substance Poisoning – Content specific to functional symptoms and safety for intoxication, over-consumption, and substance poisoning related to various categories of substance.
  • Naloxone Training – Functional training specific to recognizing opioid poisoning and administration of Naloxone medication.
