Interested in student wellness and contributing to a supportive campus community?  We have a number of competitive student leadership volunteer opportunities open to UCalgary students.

Student Wellness Services peer helper positions are filled in the fall semester, with a limited number of positions opening for the winter semester.

Peer Support and Outreach Team Peer Helper

Peer Support and Outreach Team Peer Helpers provide empathetic, non-judgmental listening and peer support to students who are seeking connection or navigating personal or academic challenges. Volunteers use active listening, shared experience, and supportive communication to help peers manage stress and mental health concerns. Working in pairs from the Student Wellness Services space, volunteers offer drop-in support to students in both one-on-one and small-group settings. In addition to direct peer support, volunteers also collaborate in working groups to plan initiatives that promote the program and foster community.

Wellness Education Team Peer Helper

The Wellness Education Team delivers Wellness Classroom Visits - short, engaging, 5-minute presentations that instructors can request to have at the beginning of their classes. These peer-led presentations are designed to highlight the importance of specific themes, provide an actionable strategy relevant to the topic, and provide information about relevant campus resources and support. Peer Helpers also normalize common student experiences by sharing their own stories, encouraging help-seeking, and reducing stigma.
