The Student Success Centre offers workshops and appointments for first-year students to help them transition to university and achieve their goals at UCalgary and beyond. Attend a workshop to develop key skills for university and set up a one-on-one meeting with an advisor to talk about your goals.

Opportunities for students

One-on-one Academic Success Advising

Identify your academic or extra-curricular goals—both within your degree and beyond—with the help of the Student Success Centre’s Academic Support team. Work with an advisor to develop academic strategies and familiarize yourself with available resources to better achieve your goals.

Professional Development and Academic Success Workshops

Learn how to set your skills and knowledge apart from other students by attending a Student Success Centre workshop.  From learning how to write a personal statement to applying for academic awards and scholarships, there's something for everyone. Workshops are scheduled at various times, with both in person and online options, so you can pick the offerings that fit best.

New Student Registration Assistance

In the summer before starting first-year courses, the New Student Registration Assistance program is available to help incoming first-year students select appropriate courses according to their program, build schedules, and navigate the registration system. Meet with an upper-year peer to learn about registration!

Meet one-on-one with a writing tutor, attend a writing community, or attend a workshop to get help on all aspects of writing.

Exploratory Advising is available year-round for first-year students who may be unsure about their degree program options.
