Audio Recording Accommodations
Students with documented disabilities, medical conditions, or injuries that impact note taking may be eligible for an accommodation to audio record lectures. A student with this accommodation can use the recording to make or augment class notes within a two week time period. After two weeks, the recording must be destroyed.
Steps for Audio Recording Accommodations
Meet with your Access Advisor to verify your eligibility for an audio recording accommodation.
Students must review and complete the Audio Recording Agreement Form. Audio recording accommodations will not be active until Student Accessibility Services has received and processed your completed form. Completed forms can be emailed to the SAS Main Office.
If you have questions about the form, are having difficulties completing the digital form, or if you would like to submit a printed form, please contact the SAS Main Office.
Students with an audio recording accommodation have multiple options for recording their lectures:
- Existing apps and software on their laptops, tablets, and phones
- Microsoft OneNote
- OneNote is part of Office 365 and free to University of Calgary students through their IT Account
- You can find demonstrations of OneNote's audio recording features here.
- Notability
- Digital Recorders
- Smartpens
If you have questions about equipment and software options for audio recording, email an Assistive Technology Advisor.
