i. Thesis Projects

Undergraduates in the Physics and Astronomy Program at the University of Calgary may carry out their undergraduate thesis work (PHYS 598, PHYS 599) under the supervision of Adjunct Faculty at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.

Undergraduate students interested in exploring this option should follow the normal procedure for PHYS 598 and PHYS 599 through Physics and Astronomy at the University of Calgary.

Preference will be given to students with an adequate academic background for acceptance into Graduate Studies and an interest in Medical Physics as a career.

ii. Summer Students

Description

The Radiation Oncology Physics group at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, Alberta seeks qualified undergraduate student(s) for a 14-week summer research experience. The summer student will contribute to on-going research in Radiation Oncology Physics with faculty members from the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Calgary.

Student Eligibility

Each student applicant shall have completed at least 2 years of their undergraduate studies, but shall not have graduated, i.e. rank of junior or senior. Applicants shall have declared a major or be eligible to declare a major in physics, engineering, or other science, which requires mathematics at least through differential equations, modern physics/quantum mechanics, electricity and magnetism or equivalent courses in engineering sciences. A minimum GPA of 3.5 for an applicant's last 10 full-course equivalents is required. Students should have a strong interest in Medical Physics. Only Canadian Citizens may be considered at this time.

Remuneration

Remuneration and the number of positions available cannot be guaranteed.  We encourage applicants to apply for and secure their own funding.

Award Period

The summer studentship will be for a period of 14 weeks during the summer academic period (May to September), which is mutually suitable to the department and student.
