Abstract:

This presentation will screen the documentary film, Emerging Horizons, that was produced as part of a philosophical hermeneutics-guided PhD research project at the University of Calgary. The film chronicles a Digital Storytelling workshop with young adult (YA) cancer survivors and shares the digital stories they created. Through the documentary itself and the interpretations provided in and through group discussion of the film, attendees will come to a deeper understanding of how Digital Storytelling could be used to access the lived experiences of poorly understood and underserved clinical populations.

Bio:

Mike Lang is a Digital Storytelling specialist, health researcher, filmmaker, and PhD student at the University of Calgary. Mike’s professional and research focus is on using both Digital Storytelling and documentary filmmaking in a research, quality improvement, advocacy, and therapeutic capacity within healthcare systems.
