Building friendships, forming connections and lasting memories starts here and the first step begins with you. Welcome Week is a great way to connect with fellow residents and become familiar with campus life. 

We encourage you to join us for any or all of the events planned for the next two week. Get introduced your team of CAs and RLCs who are dedicated to ensuring that your time in residence is both meaningful and memorable.

Winter Welcome Week: Sun. Jan. 12 - Sat. Jan. 18

We’re Not Really Strangers: Residence Social Night 
Date: Sun. Jan. 12
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: Aurora Hall Multipurpose Room (AU MPR)

This is a casual meet-up event where we will utilize conversation starter cards to meet other residence students. Come as you are, and be prepared to make lifelong friends. 

Movie Night 
Date: Mon./Tue./Wed. Jan. 13/14/15
Time: 7 p.m.
Location: Senate Room, 7th Floor International House (IH) 

A nice cozy way to spend time with your friends and floormates during Welcome Week. Bring your own snacks and blanket and enjoy some fresh popcorn on us. Our friends from the University of Calgary Recovery Community will also be there. 

Craft Your Own Vision Board 2025

It’s time to make 2025 the best year yet. Join our health experts on campus to reflect on 2024, set goals and intentions for 2025, and craft your own vision board.

Board Game Bonanza

Bring your friends out to Residence’s very own board game hangout. Our in-house board game connoisseur will introduce you to a variety of games! 

Drag Bingo Night

Join drag queen Jane Hustle for an unforgettable Drag Bingo night! Known for her glamorous style, hilarious camp, and eye for detail, Jane is sure to bring excitement and laughs as you play for fabulous prizes. With her background in cosplay and a range of stunning looks, you never know what she’ll wear next. Whether you're a bingo pro or just here for the fun, Jane’s charm and energy will have you smiling all night long. Don't miss out on this fabulous, fun-filled evening!

Yard Game Tournament 
Date: Thu. Jan. 16
Time: 8:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. 
Location: Red Gym, Active Living Centre (ALC) 

Bring a friend or we will pair you with someone. Teams of 2 will compete in a variety of outdoor games like cornhole, spikeball, ladder ball and KanJam. It’s a great way to enjoy some friendly competition, meet new people, and win awesome prizes.  

Flames Hockey Game Viewing Party

Join us for an exciting Flames hockey viewing party! Enjoy the game, free snacks, and great company. Don't miss it!

Open Mic Party at the Last Defence Lounge (LDL)

Location: LDL, 3rd floor of MacEwan Student Centre

Whether you want to perform or just enjoy the show, this event is perfect for showcasing your talent. Music, comedy, poetry—anything goes! It’s a great chance to socialize, relax, and support fellow students in a fun, lively atmosphere.

Floor-by-Floor Scavenger Hunt Competition

Location: Meet your CA at your floor's lobby 

Team up with friends to solve clues, complete challenges, and discover hidden spots around the university. It’s a fun way to explore, compete, and win prizes. Don’t miss out on this adventurous event—bring your A-game!

Dino’s Women’s Basketball Game
Date: Sat. Jan. 18
Time: 4 p.m. 
Location: Jack Simpson Gym 

Come create the loudest student cheering section in Dino history as the Dinos take on the U of M Bisons. The men’s team plays afterwards at 6 p.m.

Winter, Spring/Summer and Family Housing Move-ins

Three easy steps to moving in to Residence:

  1. Pick up your move-in package
    Pick up your move-in package and room keys at the Campus Service Centre located in International House. Photo ID is required. Temporary parking is available in the loop in front of the building.
  2. Move into your new home
    Moving carts are available at the Campus Service Centre to help you.
  3. Get to know your new neighbours

Residents can move into Varsity Courts on the first day of the first tenancy month. All documentation must be complete before keys will be issued.

1. Sign tenancy agreement

2. Provide proof of tenancy insurance in good order

3. Provide proof of marriage or common-law status in good order (if applicable)

4. Pay fees

5. Move-in inspection

Move-in During School Year

If you are moving into residence outside of the main fall move-in dates, you will need to check-in at the Campus Service Centre during office hours. If you are arriving outside of office hours, please contact the Campus Service Centre to see if there is availability for after hours check-in.

Make sure that the Campus Service Centre is aware of your move-in date, so they are able to check you in properly. To make your check-in smooth:

  • Make sure you have signed your Residence Agreement, through your Resident Portal. 
  • You have photo ID

Once you have moved in, make sure to read the Now What Guide, to help you figure out your new home.
