Volunteer Positions
Primary Purpose of the Position: (Key purpose, functions, roles):
The University of Calgary Residence Services is committed to making sure that prospective residents have the access to tour their future home at UCalgary and to get the the proper information to help them make the decision that residence is the place for them. Residence Tour Guides are current UCalgary students with diverse backgrounds and have experience living in residence who can provide honest and relatable impressions and information about residence life. Tour guides will engage with prospective residents, parents and families and are often one of the first people that a prospective student meets when they visit UCalgary.

Nature of Role:
Tours on average will be 45 minutes and we will work with each tour guide to set up specific dates for tours based on their availability. There are also special tour events throughout the year that tour guides will be expected to work at, which include Open House, You at UCalgary and apartment tours.
Qualifications/Expertise Required:
- Current student at the University of Calgary
- Meet an expectation of ongoing professionalism
- Possess strong English communication skills
- Enthusiastic and excited to share positive experiences at the University of Calgary
- Attend all scheduled training and mandatory activities
- Experience and familiarity with UCalgary residence and campus life
- Cross cultural sensitivity and awareness
- Previous experience in a customer service environment an asset
- Additional language skills considered an asset
Support and Evaluation
- Professional and constructive feedback from supervisors provided on a regular basis
- Tour shadowing and secret shopping feedback
- Friendly support and encouragement from the overall Residence Tour team.
- Continuous learning and growth (e.g. guided goal setting and self-reflection exercises each term).

We are looking for residents to help Welcome Home new students to Residence here at the University of Calgary.
You should have a knowledge of where all residence buildings are able to answer questions that new students might have of residence and the University of Calgary.
Job duties
- WHA staff will be located at International House and will greet new residents when the enter the building.
- Take the resident to receive their keys and UCID
- Walk the student to their building and help with luggage (carts will be provide if needed)
- Answer questions that new residents might have while walking to the building and talk about residence and the University of Calgary.
- Pay is $15/hour
- Must be a student at UCalgary for the Fall 2024 term
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
Dates

- Welcome Home Ambassador dates: August 23 - September 2. Shifts will be between 8 am and 10 pm.

The Housing Services Student Support works close with the Housing Services Team to implement the residence assignment strategy for single student housing for the upcoming Fall term. The incumbent may support the housing team in providing regular reports of residence occupancy and application numbers. They will also be responsible for providing outstanding customer service to residents, tenants, guests, parents, guardians, faculty and staff.
This is a regular studently hourly position, 35 hours per week position from May 1 to August 31. If available part time hours from April 1 – 31 and September 1 – 15 maybe required. Due to the nature of the Residence Services operations, some early morning, late evening, weekend and holiday work is required. They will be a member of the Residence Services team, but will often work independently, and work closely with the UCalgary Accommodations team and Ancillary Integrated Service desk/Campus Services Centre.
This position will support the Housing Services Team with working on offers, answering email and phone calls in regards to offers and any questions that customers may have about housing. The Housing Services Student Support will also be supporting the residence tour guide program and offer tours of residence to prospective residents through-out the summer. This position will also help with the implementation of residence move-in day

This seasonal position will commence on May 4 and end approximately on Aug. 15, 2025, with an estimated workload of 20 to 35 hours per week, based on demand. Working hours range from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Reporting to the Front Desk Manager, Campus Service Centre, this position will provide outstanding customer service to internal and external guests at the Summer Accommodation Front Desk. Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for front desk reception, cashier duties, data entry, report generation, reservations, and general concierge services.
The successful candidate will be able to learn new skills quickly and demonstrate initiative in completing tasks while meeting customer and departmental requirements. The Front Office Assistant's shifts will vary and may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Shifts will be adjusted to accommodate guest reservation volume.
Closing date: Mar. 24, 2025.
Hourly wage of $23 - $25/hour based on experience.
This seasonal position will commence on May 4 and end approximately on August 15, 2025, with an estimated workload of 28 to 35 hours per week, based on demand. Working hours are from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day.
Reporting to the Front Desk Manager, Campus Service Centre, this position will provide outstanding customer service to internal and external guests at the Summer Accommodation Front Desk. Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for front desk reception, cashier duties, data entry, report generation, posting charges, reservations, and general concierge services.
The successful candidate will be able to learn new skills quickly and demonstrate initiative in completing tasks while meeting customer and departmental requirements. The Front Office Assistant's shifts may vary; however, this position follows an overnight schedule and includes shifts on weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Shifts may be adjusted to accommodate guest reservation volume.
