Michael Esser

Dr. Michael Esser is a Pediatric Neurologist, the Director of the Neurocritical Care and Translational Research program at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and a Clinical Associate Professor in Pediatrics. He and a member of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI). His research focusses on the translational neurobiology of pediatric brain injury (including all severities of TBI) using a combination of biomolecular analysis of clinical samples, and animal models to interrogate molecular pathways involved in injury and recovery. The overall goal of his “lab” is the identification of novel theragnostic biomarkers and treatment strategies for pediatric acquired brain injury.
