Trexo Robotics
At nine years old, Nina was the first child in Calgary to benefit from the wearable technology that Trexo Robotics has developed.
The inspiration for Trexo Robotics came from a very personal experience. When Manmeet Maggu's young nephew, Praneit, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, his family discovered that he would not have the ability to learn to walk. After searching for solutions and realizing there were none designed for children, Maggu took matters into his own hands. He and co-founder Rahul Udasi used their robotics knowledge to create the Trexo Plus prototype.
Trexo Robotics has designed a novel, wearable robotic device designed specifically for children with walking impairments. It can be used by children as young as 18 months old. The design consists of two wearable legs, which transform a passive walker into a fully powered robotic device. It can also accommodate a wide range of needs and be adjusted in height so that children can continue to use it as they grow.
As a venture philanthropy fund focused on child health, UCeed has the power to make a big impact on companies like Trexo Robotics, according to Maggu. Being involved with the UCeed program has allowed Trexo Robotics to scale production and reach more families of children with disabilities. “UCeed’s network and expertise in the commercialization of medical devices has helped us navigate the complex challenges that come with any healthcare startup," says Maggu. "We are very fortunate to have UCeed partner with us.”
Involvement with UCeed has provided this company with investment along with guidance that has seen it through important milestones on the entrepreneurial journey. With its device, Trexo is making a powerful impact on the community, helping families and children living with disabilities.
