Yuan Jian (Jay) Wang, President's Award Recipient 2014

Yuan Jian (Jay) Wang, Bachelor of Health Sciences

A campus and community leader throughout his time at the university, Jay began his involvement in the university’s Emerging Leaders Program. He continued on in the Sophomore Leadership Program, became a peer helper, is an ally for the Women’s Resource Centre, and has been vice-president of three student clubs.

As part of his student club involvement, Jay helped organize conferences and events like the Interdisciplinary Research Forum, Calgary World Health Organization Simulation, and the Health Science Student Association Winter Gala. He also organized two of the largest science competitions in Calgary for Let's Talk Science. It is to Jay’s great credit that his efforts as an undergraduate have focused on supporting and improving the academic, career, social and life experiences of all students at the university.

Jay’s strong passion for science also influences his community work. He volunteers as a gallery host at the TELUS Spark Science Centre. He is a research assistant at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, and is an occupational therapist assistant at a local senior’s home. His work with Relay for Life has helped raise over $150,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society during his time at the university.
