Complimentary retiree parking passes are available, on request to Parking and Transportation Services, to:
- all Emeriti;
- faculty/staff with 25 or more years of continuous service to the University of Calgary.
According to the University, such complimentary passes are viewed by Canada Revenue Agency as a taxable benefit. Recipients must take one of two actions:
- Self-declare the value of usage on their personal income tax—a form will be provided annually for permit holders to reconfirm their understanding of this requirement; OR
- Instruct Parking and Transportation Services at the time of permit issuance that a T4 slip is needed—this slip will reflect the full current market value of the annual parking pass.
Application forms with Taxable Benefit Release forms are available from Parking and Transportation Services at the Olympic Volunteer Centre (1833 Crowchild Trail NW; north end of McMahon Stadium)—office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday (excluding holidays), 403-220-6771 or parking@ucalgary.ca.
Note: The parking privileges of retirees do not pass to the spouse once the retiree is deceased.
Full information about regulations and conditions for parking, can be found in the HR Information booklet for Retiring Academic Staff.
