Current Opportunities

Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Calgary Division of Psychosocial Oncology, Department of Oncology, Cumming School of Medicine

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow in the area of Integrative Oncology, working with Dr. Linda E. Carlson, Professor and holder of the Enbridge Research Chair in Psychosocial Oncology as study coordinator for the recently funded research study Preference-Based Multi-Site Randomized Comparative Effectiveness Trial (CET) of Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery (MBCR) vs. Tai Chi/Qigong (TCQ) in Cancer Survivors.

Integrative Oncology is an evidence-based oncology sub-specialty which promotes a system of integrative, collaborative, patient-centered care which uses complementary therapies (CTs) including mind-body therapies, natural health products and energy therapies in concert with medical treatment to enhance treatment efficacy, improve symptom control, alleviate patient distress, and reduce suffering. The postdoctoral fellow would primarily be responsible for coordinating the new study, but also involved in other ongoing research projects including CT education programs for patients and health care providers, support groups for patients with GI cancers and online mindfulness training programs. The postdoc will also have an opportunity to be involved in training and mentoring junior students, presenting their work at local and national conferences, co-authoring papers and be involved in provincial cancer survivorship research and programming.

Requirements are a completed PhD in clinical or health psychology, nursing, social work, medical science or allied professions, interest and preferably experience in psychosocial oncology, mindfulness or integrative medicine, and a solid publication record. Salary is $50,000/year CAD with full benefits. The position will be contracted yearly, but funding is in place for five years.  Start date is January 2016, with some flexibility.
