Centre for Corporate Sustainability
The Centre for Corporate Sustainability was founded to disseminate knowledge and balance environmental, social and economic approaches. Its mission is to enable partnerships among researchers, industry experts, government officials and community representatives to improve sustainable industry and economic practices.
Project explores Alberta’s economic and fiscal future
Recent economically impactful events in Alberta call for innovation and collective action to put the province on the path of sustainable prosperity. To encourage discussion around this, The School of Public Policy’s Alberta Futures Project has commissioned papers from a wide range of authors exploring Alberta’s economic and fiscal future, as well as the future of health care. This collection of papers is set to be published in an upcoming series of books.

Canada’s Student Work Placement Program provides meaningful employment to UCalgary students
UCalgary secured $9 million in dedicated federal funding for new co-op and internship placements. This program will provide up to 1,200 students with valuable work opportunities in their fields of study.
UCalgary introduces Embedded Certificate in Entrepreneurial Thinking
The new Embedded Certificate in Entrepreneurial Thinking was introduced in Fall 2021. The certificate, which is available to all UCalgary undergraduates, will provide students with opportunities to solve social problems, create great new technologies and build businesses.
UCalgary and Quantum City
Quantum City, announced by the University of Calgary, the Government of Alberta and leading technology company Mphasis in 2021, will create up to 1,000 jobs and help diversify our economy. Through the Institute for Quantum Science and Technology and our partnership with Quantum Alberta, UCalgary has 130 academics across several fields working in a transdisciplinary fashion to help drive Canada’s global quantum leadership. These quantum scientists are using nanotechnology, theoretical research and other areas of quantum research to work at the outer limits of what can be seen to gain a greater understanding of the world around us.

The new UCeed Social Impact Fund is a unique partnership in social finance that supports a growing family of organizations focused on making positive changes in our communities. The fund will help accelerate early stage social enterprises and invest in those that are ready to tackle societal challenges, deliver value to the community and foster economic growth.
National
In an increasingly digital world, banks are closely looking at crypto currencies as a future for money exchange. The Bank of Canada invited institutions to share their innovative ideas for how a central bank’s digital currency could potentially work and chose three teams, including UCalgary’s, to share their proposals for public review. This transdisciplinary research could help ensure the efficiency and robustness of Canada’s economy in the future.
International
Grad students from Haskayne School of Business and the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape received honourable mention at the Urban Land Institute of the Americas case competition. Their final presentation focused on building connection, experience and opportunity in Kansas City’s downtown core.
