The Owerko Centre
LEED Gold
Green Building Highlights
The Owerko Centre was built in 2015 to support the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute research on neurodevelopment disorders and child mental health. This 785 m² space is located on the third floor of the Child Development Centre building and achieved LEED Gold.
Low-Emitting Materials
Volatile organic compounds can be released into the air from materials used in a room; prolonged exposure results in health problems. To reduce these compounds, only low-emitting materials were purchased.
Water Use Reduction
Low-flow fixtures use less water compared to conventional fixtures and contribute to the over 75 per cent water reduction in the centre.
Energy Star Equipment
Products with the energy star symbol are verified to meet criteria set by the US Environmental Protection Agency or the US Department of Energy. Only energy star products were purchased.
