Sustainability is a core value at UCalgary, and one that we can all reinforce through the decisions we make every day. The Sustainable Events Badge provides a simple tool to help UCalgary students, faculty and staff take action to make our events more inclusive, environmentally conscious and socially responsible.

When we plan more sustainable events, we put our values into action. Every event, no matter how small, offers us an opportunity to create an inclusive space for social gathering, to manage our financial resources responsibly and to minimize our campus community’s impact on the environment.

Step 1

Click on the button below and select “Go to the Event Checklist” on the landing page. Click "New Event Checklist" to open a new checklist form.

Step 2

Use the Sustainable Events checklist to track your progress towards certification as you plan your event.

Step 3

When the checklist is complete, click “Save and Submit" at the bottom of the form to submit it. The Office of Sustainability will contact you to confirm the details of your certification and award your Bronze, Silver, or Gold badge.

Step 4

Highlight your sustainability badge in your event's promotional materials and invitations to showcase your commitment to creating a more sustainable tomorrow.

UCalgary’s Institutional Sustainability Strategy Action Plan (2025-28) highlights Climate Action, Responsible Consumption and EcoHealth as key pillars of a Sustainable Campus. Upcoming badges will provide more ways for students, faculty and staff to contribute to sustainability on campus. Upcoming badges are expected to focus on Waste, Meetings, Purchasing, Energy and Emissions.
