• Master of Nursing (course-based)

Students who successfully complete one specialization of the Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice I and a different specialization of the Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice II will be eligible to apply for admission into the Laddered Certificate Pathway to the Master of Nursing (course-based) degree and will receive credit for the 24 units of coursework completed. Applications must be received within two years of completion of the Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice II.

Program delivery: blended format, which includes both face-to-face and online learning.

In addition to the Faculty of Graduate Studies’ admission requirements, all applicants must meet the following requirements:

a) Completion of one specialization of the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice I and a second specialization of the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice II with a minimum GPA of 3.00. (The specialization in Advanced Nursing Practice II must be different from the specialization in Advanced Nursing Practice I);

b) Successful completion of one undergraduate 3-unit course in research methodology;

c) Successful completion of one undergraduate 3-unit course in statistics;

d) Evidence of active nursing registration in Alberta through the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) or active nursing registration in their province or territory of employment;

e) A letter of commitment from the identified supervisor indicating willingness to provide supervision throughout the program of studies and supporting the applicant’s study plan.

Applications for the Laddered Certificate Pathway to the MN must be received within two years of completion of the Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice II.

Laddered Certificate Pathway to the MN requires the successful completion of:

1. Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice I (12 units)
2. Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice II (12 units)
3. Plus successful completion of the following core courses (12 units):

• Nursing 692
• Nursing 694
• Nursing 696
• Nursing 698

The student’s capstone project Nursing 698 must be evaluated and approved by their supervisor and one other evaluator and will then be submitted to the Associate Dean (Graduate Programs, Faculty of Nursing) for final approval.

The expected completion time for the entire Laddered Certificate Pathway to the MN is three years (12 months for each graduate certificate and 12 months for the MN core courses).

The overall maximum completion time for the Laddered Certificate Pathway to the MN is six years.

Laddered Certificate Pathway to the MN students require a Faculty of Nursing member to commit to their supervision as a condition of admission.
