In addition to the Faculty of Graduate Studies’ admission requirements, all applicants must meet the following requirements:
Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice I
a) Normally, a University of Calgary four-year baccalaureate degree in nursing or an equivalent degree from a recognized institution. Degrees and grades from foreign institutions are evaluated for their equivalency to those of the University of Calgary;
b) Registered Nurses must be eligible for active nursing registration in Alberta (registrants in the program must provide proof of active CARNA registration or equivalent each year); Registered Psychiatric Nurses are expected to provide proof of active registration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) or equivalent each year;
c) A minimum GPA of 3.00 (on the University of Calgary four-point system). This is based on the last two years of post-secondary study consisting of a minimum of 60 units;
d) In order of priority, preference will be given to applicants who: 1) hold an active nursing registration in the Province of Alberta; 2) hold an active nursing registration in a Canadian province or territory of employment; 3) international students. Applicants who hold a baccalaureate degree in another health profession may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis;
e) For applicants required to provide proof of proficiency in English: a minimum TOEFL score of 97 (Internet-based test); IELTS score of 7.0; or PTE score of 68.
Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice II
a) Completion of the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing Practice I with a minimum GPA of 3.00;
b) A minimum GPA of 3.00 (on the University of Calgary four-point system). This is based on the last two years of post-secondary study consisting of a minimum of 60 units;
c) In order of priority, preference will be given to applicants who: 1) hold an active nursing registration in the Province of Alberta; 2) hold an active nursing registration in a Canadian province or territory of employment; 3) international students. Applicants who hold a baccalaureate degree in another health profession may be considered for admission on a case by-case basis.
