Bruce Gao

Bruce Gao is studying Medicine at the University of Calgary under the inaugural Schulich Leader Award and Nat Christie Foundation Medical Entrance Award. He is the Co-Founder of SimplySolar, an award winning tech startup that optimizes solar panels by 40% with mobile phones now in over 130 countries. Bruce is devoted to learning about Sir Charles Scott Sherrington (1857 – 1952), a neurophysiologist passionate about science and poetry who skillfully separated his two passions from one another in daily life. Through archived letters from the Sherrington Collection at Oxford University, Bruce is exploring whether an intersection between poetry and neuroscience here allowed Sherrington to find success in both of his passions. This effort was sponsored by the Rebecca Hotchkiss International Student Exchange program and his abstract placed 3rd in the FENS History Corner Competition.
