Biography
Meng joined the Geomicrobiology group in 2019 as a Master's student working on the GENICE project. GENICE is a Genome Canada project that addresses Canada's pressing need to develop preparedness and response strategies for oil spills in Arctic waters. Meng obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Sciences from the University of Guelph, specializing in Criminal Justice and Microbiology. Throughout her undergrad, Meng held interests in forensic sciences and health sciences before she decided to pursue environmental sciences in the Geomicrobiology group. Her MSc research will investigate the hydrocarbon-metabolizing microbial consortia that exist in the vertical water column in Arctic marine environments.
