Biography

Brielle is a MSc student interested in the biogeography of thermophilic endospores (thermospores) in marine systems. In particular, she is investigating off-axis vents and seamounts (e.g. Lost City hydrothermal field) as a potential source environment and dispersal vector for thermospores found in cold marine sediment. She received her B.S. in microbiology from Rutgers University. As an undergraduate, she worked in a deep-sea microbiology laboratory where she cultivated thermophiles from hydrothermal vent ecosystems and assembled the metagenome of a biofilm from the East Pacific Rise. When she’s not in the lab, she can be found playing tennis for the University of Calgary Dinos.
