Passing with box chaos

Each player performs 30-seconds of working time
Carla van den Berg
- Supporting players set up, each with a ball, in a square or circle formation around working players
- A small box made of four cones is set in the centre of the circle
- Working players run to perform one-touch passes with supporting players, selecting to receive the ball from a different supporting player each time
- After passing back to supporting player, working players should turn and accelerate into the box in the centre
- Players perform a change of direction in the box, accelerating out of the box into a new direction to receive the pass from another supporting player
- This drill should be performed at high intensity
- Making contact with other players when traversing through the centre box
- Cue "Keep your head up"
- Working players moving in a circle
- Cue “Exit the box from a different side than the one you came in”
- Turns and 'opening up' movements train the vestibulo ocular system
- Chaos in the centre box challenges spatial awareness
- Incorporates acceleration and change of direction movements
- Sport-specific drill prepares players for the session
- Higher-intensity drill to increase heart and breathing rates prior to the beginning of the practice/game
