30-seconds working time for each partner
Carla van den Berg
The following variations can be performed by players in groups of 3 or 4.
Variation 1:
- Working player receives and returns a pass to supporting partner #1
- The player then turns quickly and runs towards partner #2, receiving and returning the next pass
- Repeat, alternating passes between support partners
Variation 2:
- Working player turns and opens their body to the inside as they receive pass from a supporting partner. They continue their turn to pass the ball to the opposing partner
- After the pass, the player turns back runs across the middle of the passing lane to receive their next pass from their original supporting partner
- Players should always receive from the same partner. Switching to the other side of the passing lane after each pass ensures they can receive to both feet
- Turning to the same side
- Cue "Face the same direction each time you turn"
- Turns and 'opening up' movements train the vestibulo ocular system
- Incorporates acceleration and deceleration movements
- Sport-specific drill to prepare for the session
- Higher-intensity drill to increase heart and breathing rates prior to the beginning of the practice/game
