Biography

Dr. Orly Yadid-Pecht received her B.Sc. from the Electrical Engineering Department at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. She completed her M.Sc. in 1990 and her D.Sc. in 1995, respectively, also at the Technion. She was a National Research Council (USA) research fellow from 1995-1997 in the areas of Advanced Image Sensors at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)/ California Institute of Technology (Caltech). In 1997 she joined Ben-Gurion University in Israel, as a member in the Electrical and Electro-Optical Engineering departments. There she founded the VLSI Systems Center, specializing in CMOS Image Sensors. Since 2009 she is the iCORE Professor of Integrated Sensors, Intelligent Systems (ISIS) at the University of Calgary, Canada. In 2014 she received the iCORE/ AITF Strategic Chair position in Integrated Intelligent Sensors (I2Sense).

Dr. Yadid-Pecht’s main subject of interest is Integrated CMOS Sensors. She is interested in compact low power Micro and Nano-Systems mainly for Bio-Medical applications (but not exclusively). She works on “Smart” Image Sensors, Silicon Photonics and advanced materials in Photonics and MEMs. She has published over two hundred papers, holds more than three dozen patents, has led over two dozen research projects supported by government and industry. Her work has a couple thousand external citations and she has an H-index of 34. In addition, she has co-authored and co-edited the first book on CMOS Image Sensors: “CMOS Imaging: From Photo-transduction to Image Processing”, published in 2004. She is also a director on the board of two companies and a professional coach.

Since 2018 Dr. Yadid-Pecht has offered the “From Lab 2 Fulfilment” workshop, which she developed, aimed at women faculty in Science and Engineering, supporting entrepreneurship. The workshop has been enthusiastically accepted at the University of Calgary and overseas. Dr. Yadid-Pecht’s aim is to expand and extend the workshop to support entrepreneurship further amongst women and research groups.

Dr. Yadid-Pecht has served VP Publications of the IEEE Sensors Council and on many IEEE, SPIE and other editorial and international conference boards, such as the IEEE ISCAS in 2017. Dr. Yadid-Pecht is an active member of the Sensory Systems, the Neural Networks and the Biocas technical committees of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. Dr. Yadid-Pecht is also an IEEE Fellow since 2007, an SPIE Fellow since 2015 and an AIMBE Fellow since 2018
