Biography

Naima is a MSc student, who started her research under the supervision of Dr. Kutz in the Department of Ecosystems and Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary in September 2017.

Naima received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2015 from the Ontario Veterinary College, Guelph, ON and her Honours Bachelor of Sciences, Biological Sciences in 2011 from the University of Guelph, Guelph, ON.

Naima is currently President of the Wildlife Disease Association - UCalgary Student Chapter; a member of the University of Calgary Wildlife Health and Ecology Research Group; part of the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine – Epidemiology Journal Club; and a member of the University of Calgary Faculty of Community Health Sciences – Qualitative Methods Research Journal Club.

Naima’s current research project is studying interdisciplinary approaches to mountain caribou health surveillance in northwestern British Columbia, using local guide and outfitter knowledge and harvest-based sampling techniques to broadly assess health, status, and trends of the Northern Mountain Population of woodland caribou in this region.
