Biography

Jacob is a PhD student who began his research in January, 2017 in the School of Public Health, at the University of Alberta under the supervision of Dr. Hanington.  Jacob has a BSc. (Hons) in Biology/Chemistry, from the University of New Brunswick.  Jacob became interested in parasitology while working on his undergraduate thesis under the supervision of Dr. Michael Duffy.

Jacob’s prior research involved examining the regional expansion of a parasitic nematode (Anguillicola crassus) found in the American eel population in Atlantic Canada, as well as its development in an intermediate host, and its ability to use different species of fish as paratenic hosts.

Jacob’s current project involves examination of the molecular determinants of host-parasite compatibility between Biomphalaria glabrata and Schistosoma mansoni.
