Archaeology (Bachelor of Science)

Archaeologists ask questions such as: Why did the Mayan civilization collapse? Who built the Great Sphinx of Giza? What do Pompeii’s ruins tell us about life in 79 AD?

Archaeology is the study of human life and activities in past cultures through examination of material remains. This program will give you a solid understanding of how to research, excavate and scientifically analyze cultural remains gleaned from sites such as buried and/or abandoned human settlements. During the course of your studies, you'll develop research capabilities, written and verbal communication skills, scientific knowledge, and technical expertise.

Our BSc program has a stronger emphasis on scientific and quantitative methodologies and technical skills than the BA. The BSc in Archaeology provides a focus on the natural and biological sciences. Explore research methods, excavation techniques, and scientific analysis of cultural remains from ancient human settlements. Develop invaluable research skills, enhance communication abilities, and gain scientific expertise throughout your academic journey. 

Archaeological fieldwork is an important part of the experience, our students have participated in excavations in partnership with Indigenous First Nations and work on other important Archaeology investigations. 

Career opportunities

As a graduate with a BSc in Archaeology, you will be prepared for careers requiring strong scientific and technical skills, such as archaeological fieldwork, laboratory analysis, environmental consulting, or research positions in academia or government agencies. A degree in Archaeology can also be used as a stepping-stone to graduate studies or another professional degree such as law, medicine, veterinary medicine, or education.
