EDIA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) Award for Graduate Students
The EDIA Award for Graduate Students honors exceptional contributions to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within academic and community settings. Nominees must be current, full-time graduate students enrolled at the University of Calgary. Nominations should provide evidence of the nominee’s commitment to EDIA activities over at least six months prior to nomination.
Criteria for the Graduate Student EDIA Award include:
- Impact on Advancing EDIA: Demonstrated initiatives or projects that promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, with positive effects on the academic or campus community.
- Leadership: Leadership roles in programs, committees, or projects centered on EDIA, including evidence of the nominee’s ability to inspire and engage others in EDIA efforts.
- Sustainability: Evidence of efforts that contribute to long-term change or ongoing EDIA initiatives, with collaboration across diverse groups and communities.
- Advocacy: Advocacy for underrepresented or marginalized groups, including participation in awareness campaigns or educational activities that promote EDIA.
- Professional Development: Engagement in educational activities, such as training or workshops related to EDIA, and contributions to scholarship or research with a focus on equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Nomination Process
- Submission of Nomination Form: A comprehensive nomination form specific to each award category must be submitted, detailing the nominee’s contributions to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA).
- Evidence of Impact: Include clear, specific examples that demonstrate the nominee's achievements, highlighting both current and potential future impact on EDIA.
- Supporting Documentation: Additional materials are encouraged, such as work samples, letters of support from faculty or community members, and an optional personal statement from the nominee that outlines their EDIA contributions.
- Eligibility for Nomination: Nominations are welcome from faculty, students, staff, and peers.
- Relevant Documentation: When applicable, provide documentation of relevant activities or projects that further illustrate the nominee’s contributions.
Evaluation
The EDIA Awards Adjudication Committee will evaluate nominations using a detailed rubric based on the award criteria, assessing both qualitative and quantitative impacts of the nominee’s work.
