EDIA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) Award for Undergraduate Students
The EDIA Award for Undergraduate Students honors individuals who have made meaningful contributions to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within their academic unit or the broader university community. Nominees must be current, full-time undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Calgary. Nominations should provide evidence of the nominee’s commitment to EDIA activities over at least six months prior to nomination.
Criteria for the Undergraduate Student EDIA Award include:
- Contribution to EDIA Initiatives: Demonstrated involvement in programs, projects, or events that actively promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- Leadership Roles: Holding leadership positions within student organizations that focus on EDIA principles.
- Impact on Community: Evidence of a positive influence on their academic unit or campus community in relation to EDIA.
- Outreach and Advocacy: Active participation in outreach or advocacy efforts supporting EDIA initiatives.
- Diversity of Experience: Consideration of how the nominee’s diverse perspectives and personal experiences contribute to their impact on EDIA.
- Personal Statement: An optional reflective essay detailing the student’s commitment to EDIA, relevant experiences, and future goals related to these principles.
- Recommendations: Letters of recommendation from faculty, staff, peers, or community members within the university attesting to the student’s contributions and dedication to EDIA.
Nomination Process
- Submission of Nomination Form: A comprehensive nomination form specific to each award category must be submitted, detailing the nominee’s contributions to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA).
- Evidence of Impact: Include clear, specific examples that demonstrate the nominee's achievements, highlighting both current and potential future impact on EDIA.
- Supporting Documentation: Additional materials are encouraged, such as work samples, letters of support from faculty or community members, and an optional personal statement from the nominee that outlines their EDIA contributions.
- Eligibility for Nomination: Nominations are welcome from faculty, students, staff, and peers.
- Relevant Documentation: When applicable, provide documentation of relevant activities or projects that further illustrate the nominee’s contributions.
Evaluation
The EDIA Awards Adjudication Committee will evaluate nominations using a detailed rubric based on the award criteria, assessing both qualitative and quantitative impacts of the nominee’s work.
